Worldwide Cell Phone Sales Bounced Back

After consecutive periods of slump, worldwide cell phone market has finally returned to a single-digit growth in the last quarter of 2009, even though it was not enough to offset the decline suffered throughout the entire year, according to research firm Gartner. Driven by the healthy sales of smartphones and low-end devices, global handset sales to end users reached 340 million units in the fourth quarter of 2009, registering an 8.3 percent increase from the same period in 2008. Smartphone sales led the way with 53.8 million units sold during the quarter, up 41.1 percent from the year-ago period
