Cellular 911 Service

Because of the massive increase of cell phone calls to 911 operators over the last few years, the FCC has set up specific rules and requirements for cellular carriers. The first rule of all is that any 911 call, that comes from any wireless phone, must be delived to the closest 911 operator, even if the phone making the call is not subscribed to that wireless carrier’s services. Here is the exact quote from the FCC website, and a link to the FCC’s 911 Wireless Page : Basic 911 rules require wireless service providers to: transmit all 911 calls to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), regardless of whether the caller subscribes to the provider’s service or not
